The LCC Maverick Baseball program is one of the strongest programs in the country. Never not having a winning season the Mavericks continue to attract and produce some of the best players in the country.
The coaching staff maintains the La Costa Canyon baseball field, which players throughout the county will tell you is second to none. The meticulously maintained field is one of Coach Machado’s trademarks as well as a true testament to his devotion to the game and Maverick Baseball. The field has earned itself a reputation as being one of the hardest fields in the county to hit the ball out of too and is touted by many as more like a professional sized field.
The LCC coaching staff has been in place for a number of years with Coach Machado pulling from former players as well as players his teams competed against. The program continually keeps more paid coaches on staff than any other programs in the county.
LCC players enjoy a close bond amongst each other. Enjoying annual events such as the World Series, Padres Games, Home Run Derby, Team Dinners and much more.
LCC Maverick Baseball has had numerous players receive athletic scholarships at various college levels as well as two MLB draft picks. Phillip Evans was selected in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB draft and made his first MLB debut on September 9, 2017. Mickey Moniak was selected as the first pick in the 2016 MLB draft and made his first MLB debut on September 16, 2020. Spencer Jones was selected in the first round of the 2022 MLB draft by the Yankees after a successful college career at Vanderbilt.
